Heroin Detox Cost
Heroin detox generally takes up to a week or slightly more under supervision. At the heroin detox center, a patient will be under 24 hour supervision and surveillance to ensure that they are able to cope with the withdrawals associated with the drug. These trained nurses or physicians specialize in drug addiction treatment and rehabilitation. These medical practitioners are well trained to identify heroin detox symptoms and administer the required medication as and when needed. The most common types of medication that are prescribed during heroin detox are Methadone, Buprenorphine and Naltrexone. These help the person cope with the various withdrawal effects and increase their likelihood of recovery.
Heroin rapid detox is often used or chosen by some patients. In this process, a patient is put under general anesthesia and the body is deliberately made to detox from the effects of the heroin in the blood stream. In rapid detox narcotic antagonists such as naltrexone or naloxone are used, which block receptors in the brain to bring on withdrawal faster it otherwise would. The patient is induced into complete withdrawal, but under anesthesia and will not feel the pain of withdrawal symptoms. Owing to its nature with anesthesia, Rapid Detox does have its fair share of fatalities and must be exercised under strict medical supervision.
In addition to the opiate blockers, the patient is given muscle relaxants and analgesics to alleviate any withdrawal symptoms pains that might exist as the effect of the anesthesia wears off. Suboxone is generally given as the effect of the anesthesia wears off and then gradually reduced in dosage. Heroin rapid detox can take anywhere between 12 and 48 hours. Once the patient wakes they would have skipped the effects of heroin detox symptoms and the body would have completely been rid of traces of the opiate. Rapid detox effectively reduces the time of regular heroin detox by a few days. Typically heroin detox takes about a week but rapid detox could take place in a day. This is a reason many people try to go for this method but must be mindful of the risks associated with it.
So how much does heroin detox cost?
Typically it costs anywhere from $250-500 per day for medical detox and depending on the case could be higher. Choosing the appropriate facility for your budget will also make a difference in cost. Some Inpatient rehab can cost of $1,000-$7,000 a week. In some cases, detox may be tax deductible. According to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), as of 2013, out-of-pocket medical costs that are higher than 10% of your adjusted gross income are tax deductible.
The cost of rapid detox varies depending on several factors but is typically in the thousand dollars to several thousand dollars price range. In general larger detox and rehab facilities as well and those run by non-profits are slightly more affordable. Severe withdrawal symptoms and the decision to be under anesthesia will also raise the cost of rapid detox. The factors that influence the cost of rapid detox include:
- Anesthesia vs. none
- Multiple drug withdrawal vs. single
- Non-profit vs. private detox
- Severe withdrawal symptoms vs. mild
Financial Options to Pay For Rehab
When it comes to paying for rehab, this can be a barrier to help get a loved one in treatment. The good news is that there are a variety of helpful options that can alleviate large out of pocket costs for treatment.
Health Insurance: If health insurance is an option for your loved one, we provide a free insurance verification to determine what substance abuse coverage is available. Insurance may cover up to 100% of treatment and will vary depending on each insurance plan.
Private Pay Options: If health insurance is not an option and financial resources are available for treatment, there are a wide range of treatment options available depending on the budget that will be put towards treatment. We will provide you with an initial assessment to determine the needs and accommodations desired and provide a set of options that are the best match. For increased confidentiality, some people prefer to pay privately and not use insurance or any other form of assistance, which is also a request that can also be accommodated. In addition, if you are seeking a private room or have special requests, private pay will most likely be required solely or in addition to health insurance.
Financing Options: If insurance or private pay ability is limited or not available, the option to finance treatment has become an additional option for many families. There are a number of financing companies that specialize in lending funds specifically for the purpose of addiction and or mental health treatment.
